Out of curiousity, how many people here don’t mind referring to themselves as an Indian? I personally feel uncomfortable calling myself an Indian, but I was wondering about the rest of you?
I tend to say American Indian if I don’t say Aboriginal or Native American.
Or Cherokee Indian
I use it rarely, but I don’t really like it because of the confusion, occasional sarcasm, and why/where it came from.
I don’t find it offensive (depending/intentions), just incorrect/confusing.
I use tongue-in-cheek “Ndn” online or native, native “american”, Nican Tlaca (more commonly used by Mēxihcah/Maya), Indigenous, (I like 1st nations, but rarely use it, as it seems more known in Canada)
but, I prefer (specific) Tsalagi.
